The PROTECT Study

We aim to understand why some people become depressed and have thoughts of hurting themselves, while others do not.
You may be eligible if you are 55 or older and have:
- never been diagnosed with bipolar depression, a psychotic or neurological disorder
- never had a stroke
- may or may not be experiencing problems with memory or cognition

No invasive procedures
2-3 sessions lasting 2-4 hours
$100 to $150 compensation + transportation expenses
Remote video visits possible, some in-person assessments preferred
We will take an extensive psychiatric history, ask questions about mood, and play games to examine your problem-solving and decision-making style. This is not a treatment study, and we do not provide medication or therapy.

The RISE Study
Informational Flyer
We aim to learn about how people cope better after they have lost their spouse or life partner.
You may be eligible if you are 65 or older and have:
- a history of or currently experiencing depression
- never been diagnosed with bipolar depression or a psychotic disorder

Talk weekly with a health coach to reach health goals
7 sessions over 12 months including 12 week health rhythms program
$405 compensation + transportation expenses
Remote video visits possible, some in-person assessments preferred
We will take a psychiatric history, ask questions about mood, grief, sleep, and social connections. You will also be asked to wear an actigraphy watch to track sleep and take part in a healthy rhythms program where you will fill out daily surveys and talk with a health coach weekly. We do not provide medication or therapy.
